Lil Nas X and Cardi B Facing Lawsuit Over Hit ‘Rodeo’

Lil Nas X and Cardi B are facing a copyright infringement lawsuit over their collaboration, “Rodeo,” according to TMZ. “Rodeo” is off of Nas’ debut album, EP 7.

Producer Brandon Lee wrote the song, “gwenXdonlee4-142,” which was subsequently put into the track “Broad Day,” by artists PuertoReefa and Sakrite Duexe. In the lawsuit, Lee claims that “Rodeo” shares too many similarities with “Broad Day,” which was released in 2017, two years before Cardi and Nas released their collaboration.

The lawsuit claims that each track is built on a “4-measure phrase outlining the chord progression E, F, G, F, E.” Lee also reports that the tempos are eerily similar along with similar drumbeats, and both songs utilized the same guitar and wind instruments.

Though the songs do share similarities, Lee does not share how he believes the two superstars heard “Broad Day.” Lee claims that the song was “widely distributed” in the hip-hop genre and heavily in Atlanta.

Along with Cardi and Nas being sued, Lee is also suing Sony Music Entertainment, Columbia Records and Cardi’s previous manager, Klenord Raphael.
